Weyregg

The gästhaus in Bad Hall was great. The late hour and bad weather didn't permit our looking around town, but the woman running the place was entertainment enough. She greeted us enthusiastically, offered us discounts on rooms (maybe), gave us meat and cheese free for breakfast and even offered to send Christmas cards from nearby Cristkindl. We crashed very early after an exciting ride.

Today again we followed more of the cross-country signs. We ended up riding on some very rough (at least for our bikes: stones on the path should be narrower than your tires) trails (yesterday was unpaved roads). But they were beautiful and forested at first. Most of the rest of the ride was through corn and wheat fields, or just beside them. About 5 minutes before Lambach, our lunch destination, it started pouring.

We parked our bikes in a sheltered place, then found a nice little restaurant. Had some goulash, some sausages, some coffee, some dessert and patiently waited for the rain to subside. Amazingly enough, it did, but it didn't look very promising so we took the main road to make good time. It was horrible: there were too many cars and trucks so it wasn't possible to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Fortunately the weather was looking a bit brighter as we came to the junction to cut south towards the lake we had as destination. It made a huge improvement in the riding conditions and we were treated again to rolling hills, fields and little towns. Stopped briefly at Shörfling (?) where we thought we would stay, then continued on because Shörfling wasn't on the lake, to Weyregg, checked into the first free pension we could find, went down town for a great wiener schnitzel (Rony's fish was good too), and then home to write postcards. Now done.
