Genève

There is nothing quite so characteristic of Geneva as its majestic fountain. Positioned near the end of the lake, where it can be easily viewed from all sides (including boats), it shoots 325 feet into the air. The water shoots out of it at a speed of 125 mph, and approximately 7 tons of water are in the air at a time. So why didn't I get a postcard of a fountain? A jet of water is a petty boring thing. Also I really liked this cathedral. There was one angle of it that looked really great from the ground. Unfortunately all the postcards of the cathedral were lousy. There was one great postcard of an insignificant monument, but what do we want, form or substance? The inside of this cathedral is virtually identical to the one in Lausanne and so are the side towers. The central tower on this one was really neat, except on the cards.

My gamble to get a nice last day of riding worked: it rained early in the morning and looked iffy for a while, but it was nice for my whole ride. I was able to find little roads along the lake for the first half of the ride, discovered some neat and quaint little towns. The second half was along the main road, still near the lake, but not as quiet or scenic. Had lunch in a nice town called Nyon. They had a huge flea market with antiques going on. There were only a few things I wanted: a spyglass ($250), a few chairs, some old leather-bound books. But I resisted.

Then I rode the final stretch into Geneva. No flats, no breakdowns - an easy trip. The riding is all over, all that remains is to get my bike home in one piece. I couldn't get a box to put the bike in, so I'll just put it in a bag and insure it. Insurance will ensure that their assurances that nothing will happen to it will be valid. Right Murphy? Oh well, need to get to sleep early and catch my plane.

Great Trip, once again.

The end.
